Pinellas County, Florida -- The Inmate Horticulture program at the Pinellas County Jail is a large plant and tree nursery accessible to the public. Inmates learn plant growing and landscaping skills. Citizens can purchase plants and trees at the complex during specified hours.

The Horticulture Program has been on site for inmates for several years and offers plant materials for sale to the public.

These are just some of the questions that will be answered at this Saturday’s Earth Care Event at the Allendale United Methodist Church, 3803 Haines Road North, St. Petersburg.

The event is on Saturday 20, from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. 

This free celebration of Mother Earth will feature a plethora of resources, activities and workshops including:

Pinellas County preserve has new April programs

Pinellas County, Florida -- Many hiking opportunities are available at Weedon Island Preserve in April.

Regular two-hour guided hikes begin at 9 a.m. each Saturday. Participants learn about the ecosystems and early residents of Weedon Island Preserve while hiking the coastal uplands and along boardwalks through mangrove forests. The hikes are best for ages 6 and older.
