Pastor and wife forgive man accused of shooting daughter | News

ST. PETERSBURG, Florida -- We continue to learn more about the 20-year-old Bay area woman who was accidently shot in the head in church on Sunday, February 12.

It happened at Grace Connection Church where her father serves as the pastor. Hannah Kelley died nearly a week later on Saturday morning.

Investigators with the Pinellas County Sheriff's Office say Moises Zambrana, a church member, was showing off a gun to two young men. One of them was Kelley's boyfriend. They say as the men were looking over the gun's safety features it accidentally went off.

The bullet went through the wall, hitting Kelley.

Her parents, Pastor Tim Kelley and Peggy Kelley, released a statement saying, "The family has forgiven Mr. Zambrana and would ask that others treat him with love and grace. The family would encourage mothers and fathers everywhere to hug their children a little tighter as you never know when it will be your last opportunity."

They add, "Hannah trusted Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior."

Church members say as devastating as her death is, they have joy knowing she's in Heaven. According to reports, John Penu was being shown the gun when it went off. He says, "It's hard to describe in short the feelings that I had. But I mean, it's tragic, but it's all for a purpose. God has a plan."

Alton Brown was also at the church when it happened and says, "Precious in the site of the Lord is the death of one of his saints. We know where she is and, as far as rejoicing with her again, I'm going to see Hannah again."

Church members say Hannah was very active in the youth ministry and wanted to make ministry her career.

A memorial service for Hannah Kelley will be held on Saturday, February, 25 at 11:00 a.m. at Calvary Chapel at 8900 U.S. 19 in Pinellas Park.
